When is the Perfect time to start living?
“I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life, and I never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.” -Georgia O’Keeffe
Ring a bell?
Listen. I know when we imagined ourselves in our future, we believed we’d be happier, hotter (as in that timeless, beautiful Sofia Lauren sense), content with our money situation, more confident, less busy, less stressed, more READY & will to go for what we wanted.
So we continue to wait.
We wait for another time for it all to arrive. With all its improved circumstances, all its upgraded feelings of willingness and courage, and we tell ourselves … that’s when I’ll do it!
We hold out for later. Then we start to realize at a certain age later will be here sooner than we think.
I get it. Honestly. And I appreciate that fear can be a frickin monster … & it can be really had to face.
And that’s OK.
Moving slowly is OK. Find your own speed. But sure be your still “MOVING.”
Because waiting until you feel absolutely ready is Risky-in-this-Game of life. It’s the hard truth, and there are no guarantees that you would get hurt if you don’t participate.
I’m sharing it because I want you to have whatever you want.
Please don’t wait to feel ready. Don’t wait for that fearlessness. To finally arrive. Instead, look at it in the face. Take a big deep breath and just for a moment when you know you\’re ready to make a change…try this exercise I\’ve used with success.
Imagine the absolute worst
…that can happen in a situation that usually stops you from going forward with a decision, or what you want. Think of all the details that could happen …BUT probably won\’t. And then… exhale after another big breath and LET IT GO.
What happens is we get “locked and loaded” to think and plan for the worst possible scenario whenever we think of moving towards the things we love. It\’s a primitive safety mechanism. Then they cook inside in there primitive infancy. Without the real rational exploration that can happen if we really think it all the way through.
And when we do, moving through the scariness of allowing ourselves to go down that monstrous imaginative scenario …in a strange way it loses its power. ( I do this & have done it in the past.)
This can even work in meditation… when you find your mind drifting towards sad or scary territory. Try it make sure you’re in a safe place and make sure that you have a way to let go & you can come back to the reality of a safe and warm place and knowing.
PLEASE A PERSONAL NOTE: ( if you find this really challenging and makes you anxious STOP… there’s nothing wrong with having a professional help guide you through this.)
This is your gentle nudge that life is not a dress rehearsal. Don’t put off what you want most and think you cannot have now.
What ways do you use to help you with moving past fear? Love to hear from you in the comments.
